  6. Gibbs & Dandy raises employee pay above National Living Wage

Gibbs & Dandy raises employee pay above National Living Wage

Gibbs & Dandy has announced that it is increasing its minimum employee hourly rate of pay above that of the Government’s National Living Wage.

First rolled out in April 2016, the National Living Wage requires businesses to pay employees aged 25 and over at least £7.20 per hour and will increase from 1st April 2017 to £7.50.

Gibbs & Dandy has taken the decision to go beyond this and therefore will be paying all its employees at least £7.80 per hour. The company has also taken the decision to support young people more, and has extended the minimum wage increase to employees over the age of 21, rather than the 25 the Government indicated.

Neil Lawrence, managing director of Gibbs & Dandy brand, said: “Our employees play a vital role in making our customer service the best it can be.  Serving colleagues day-in day-out they are the face of Gibbs & Dandy.

“Putting this minimum salary in place across Gibbs & Dandy was really important for us and our colleagues, not only making sure there is a minimum pay, above the minimum set by government, but also that it’s in place for anyone over 21, rather than 25 as the government set-out.

“But, salary is just part of the benefits package all our employees can access. They also include: the opportunity to buy and sell holidays, a discounted cycle through our cycle to work scheme for the health conscious as well as a childcare voucher scheme for parents.  We also offer a pension scheme with excellent life insurance cover and a money saving range of discounts through our reward website.

“We are passionate about getting more young people into our business and supporting them to develop long careers with us and this announcement is testament to our belief.”

  10. Homeowner demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies

Homeowner demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies
The green agenda remains strong among UK households, according to a new survey that found increasing levels of interest in environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies. Our research found that 34% of building and construction professionals have seen an increase in the amount of work they are quoting for that involves environmentally friendly and sustainable technologies. Meanwhile, 39% said they were quoting for a similar level of work. In terms of the type of technologies that households are interested in, rainwater harvesting systems is the most popular (20.9%), followed by solar thermal (16.4%), air source heat pumps (15.8%), solar phovolatic (14.7%), ground source heat pumps (12.4%) and biomass boilers (5.1%). Andy Welch, Gibbs & Dandy’s renewables & sustainability expert, said: “It’s positive news that UK households are still interested in energy saving technologies because they really do reduce energy bills and result in lowering CO2 emissions. “There are some very innovative products currently on the market with many more to come. In fact, looking ahead to 2017, I expect there to be a rise in the installations of battery storage technology for use with solar PV. Improved quality battery storage technology means households will be able to better utilise the power generated during the day for use in the evenings. This will lead to reduced energy bills for homeowners as well as lower CO2 emissions.”
